Journey from Las Vegas to Palm Springs - 4/12/2009

After much anticipation, we were on the road from Las Vegas to Plam Springs - Las Vegas Blvd to Interstate 15. My manager called it the "highway of death". I was hoping that, since it was Easter Sunday, it would not be very eventful. Well, since we did not get on the road until the afternoon, we did encounter a lot of weekend traffic. Add to that some road construction along the way.

We passed through Primm, NV (literally) and decided that we will have to go there the next time we are in Vegas.

As we continued on our journey, there were tell tale signs of car accidents - broken glass, bits of car bumpers or other parts. Aside from that, the landscape looked pretty much the same as we drove through the Mojave Desert. Eventually, signs of civilization appeared with recognizable fast food chain logos and home improvement and department stores. And there was even a rest stop with a giant thermometer. It was reading only 77!

The one cool thing we found was that there are radio stations broadcasting specifically for the drive through the desert! Yes, they were live broadcasts that kept us informed of the traffic that we were already stuck in or that we were going to encounter!

(As a side note, when we checked into our hotel in Palm Springs, the concierge told us that there is a back way into Palm Springs that would hove take 1+ hours off our time. Oh well, we will try it the next time.)
